Efficient lighting for plants with light reflectors

Light reflectors are another important element of the plant lighting system. Thanks to their reflective surface, these devices are able to significantly increase the efficiency of lighting by reflecting the scattered light and directing it back to the plants. Light reflectors are made of sheet iron and can be of different shapes: conical, parabolic and horizontal. Some reflectors are sold separately and some are already built into hydroponic fixtures.

Parabolic reflectors are pleasant for both plants and their owner, as they perfectly direct light to plants and prevent excessive light in the room as a whole.

Horizontal ones are great for moving mechanisms with fluorescent sodium lamps. As for the reflectors of the conical shape, they diffuse the light in such a way that not only the hydroponic installation with seedlings or mature plants is illuminated, but also a certain area of the room.

In addition to reflectors, there is a more budgetary way to make plant lighting more efficient. This is a reflective film that is quite inexpensive, but at the same time gives a fairly good result. Typically, such a film is used in home-made grow boxes, pasting over the walls and ceiling of the device with it. It is able to return up to 98 percent of the scattered light to the plants and thus significantly reduce the hydroponist's costs for lamps, fixtures and electricity.
